  • QTL names are given as WtmgeX.Y to indicate that the effects are on weight or weight-related traits (Wt) and to show a maternal genetic effect (mge), with the first number (X) denoting the chromosome and the second (Y) denoting the QTL number on that particular chromosome. The chromosome number, location (given as F2 locations in centimorgans), and genome coordinates (in base pair units, based on mouse genome build 36; http://www.ensembl.org) are given for each QTL. Patterns are listed as follows: Mat, maternal expression; Bipolar, bipolar dominance; and Overd, polar overdominance. In the cases of bipolar and polar overdominance, the sign of i is given in parentheses to indicate the observed pattern. Boldface type shows the patterns for which the maternal effect was significant at the chromosomewide level. Non-boldface type shows patterns that were significant at the locus level in a protected test (see materials and methods). Shown are the 10 weekly weights and three growth traits (e.g., growth 1–2 is weight gain from week 1 to week 2, etc.).
