Transgenes encoding mutant proteins were tested for functional complementation with elav alleles: elave5 and elavts1. w/Y; Tg/ balancer were crossed to elavx w sn/balancer (x denotes the elav allele, Tg stands for the transgene). Rescue (%) = (number of rescued males of genotype elavx w sn/Y; Tg/+)/(number of control females of genotype elavx w sn/w; Tg/+) × 100. For details see materials and methods.
