Specifically, the map contains 317 simple sequence length polymorphisms at an average spacing of 4.3 cM and is detectably linked to approximately 99% of the mouse genome. In typical crosses between inbred laboratory strains, about 50% of the markers are polymorphic, making it straightforward to follow inheritance in almost any cross.
