About the Cover
Macro- and microscale rearrangements of genes within chromosomes observed among Drosophila species sequenced in the 12 genomes project. (Top) The chromosomes depicted indicate the large-scale changes in chromosomal organization among the 12 Drosophila species (Schaeffer et al., pp. 1601–1655) that were inferred from the mapping of genome assembly scaffolds to polytene chromosomes. (Bottom) The fine-scale changes to gene order among 8 Drosophila species that have arisen through chromosomal rearrangements are shown. Each gene is indicated by a colored line and each chromosomal arm is designated by a different color (Bhutkar et al., pp. 1657–1680). Cover designed by S. W. Schaeffer and Naylor Design. The original image of Drosophila pseudoobscura in the background was taken by S. W. Schaeffer.
