About the Cover
The reproductive system of Caenorhabditis elegans influences life span. When germ cells (visible in the black and white images) are removed, a transcription factor, DAF-16/FOXO, accumulates in nuclei (top left) and mediates life span extension. This life span extension requires the somatic reproductive tissues. In this issue, YAMAWAKI et al. (pp. 513–526) explore the role of these somatic tissues and find that they are required for the correct expression of some, but not all, DAF-16/FOXO-regulated genes (fluorescent images). Photos were taken by T. Yamawaki and A. Ghazi.
