GENETICS, published by The Genetics Society of America, publishes high-quality, original research presenting novel findings bearing on genetics and genomics. The journal publishes empirical studies of organisms ranging from microbes to mouse to humans, as well as theoretical work. GENETICS also publishes Review, Commentary (current issues of interest to geneticists), and Perspective (historical) articles, as well as Primer articles focused on the teaching of genetics. GENETICS is a peer-reviewed, peer-edited journal. All editorial decisions are made through collaboration of at least two peer-editors.
With a five-year impact factor of 5.963 and a cited half life of >10, GENETICS ranks in the top 3.9% of all journals indexed by Thomson Reuters InCites Journal Citation Reports (JCR).
GENETICS, founded in 1916 and the first American journal in the field, has long been a premier genetics journal. Its readership ranges from undergraduate students to professors emeriti. The majority of readers are doctoral-level researchers and educators who focus on the genetics of model organisms.
These researchers study organisms that are models for understanding human biology, and out of a direct interest in the biology of the organisms themselves. GENETICS includes reports on research into the molecular biology, cell biology, organismal biology, population genetics, evolutionary biology, and genome science of life.
The journal has a broad reach to individuals all over the world investigating genetic mechanisms in organisms ranging from yeast to man to mice, as well as those in biotechnology and biomedical research, biochemistry, cell biology, evolutionary and population genetics, medical genetics, bioinformatics, and public health research. Starting with Volume 1, Issue 1, published in January 1916, the full text of every GENETICS article ever published is online. This rich repository is a valuable storehouse of genetics knowledge.
