The Ama1-Directed Anaphase-Promoting Complex Regulates the Smk1 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase During Meiosis in Yeast

In the article by C. M. MCDONALD, K. F. COOPER and E. WINTER (GENETICS 171: 901–911) entitled "The Ama1-Directed Anaphase-Promoting Complex Regulates the Smk1 Mitogen-Activated Protein Kinase During Meiosis in Yeast" the authors reported in Figures 3 and 4 that a cdc28-4/cdc28-4 ama1-{Delta}/ama1-{Delta} strain could form spores. Subsequent analysis showed that the strain referred to as cdc28-4/cdc28-4 ama1/ama1 (CMY37 in Table 1) contains an intact copy of AMA1. The authors have generated new cdc28-4/cdc28-4 ama1/ama1 strains and have found that the strains do not form spores. Therefore, the conclusion that cdc28-4 can suppress the sporulation defect of strains lacking AMA1 is in error. This change does not affect the other conclusions of this article.
